Wii Serial Number

The Wii has had different drive chipsets since its launch. The best way to know which version your console has is to open it and look at the text written on the chipset itself. Another way to know is using the serial number of the console. It's not 100% accurate and not yet complete, but gives a quick way to check your console's chipset. Serial number prefix is 'KU' or 'KB.' Has the same look, feel and function as model RVL-001, with the following exceptions: Designed to sit horizontally rather than vertically.

The Wii Drive Chip Database will hopefully make it easier to identify the DVD drive chip model in your Wii console before you open it or buy one. By collaborating details about the Wii, it's possible to get a pretty good estimation of the controller model by just providing the serial number. Meaning, the first number most likely dictates a Wii's factory. Another likely conjecture is the second number does chronologically go up, depending on when that Wii was made at the factory. For example, let's say we have an LU34 Wii and an LU38 Wii. Both were made at factory 3, but the LU34 Wii was likely made before the LU38 Wii.
